The Miami Heat (often stylized in all caps as HEAT) is a professional basketball team based in Miami, Florida in the United States. The team is a member of the Southeast Division in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). They play their home games at the American Airlines Arena in Downtown Miami. The team owner is Micky Arison, who also owns cruise-ship giant Carnival Corporation. The team president and de facto general manager is Pat Riley, and the head coach is Erik Spoelstra. The mascot of the team is Burnie, an anthropomorphic fireball. There team is notable for their "Big 3" of Dwayne Wade (who was integral in their NBA championship title in 2006 and 2012), Chris Bosh, and Lebron James, who was also an integral part of the team's championship run in the 2011-2012 season.

Big 3 Era History:In the summer of 2010 the Heat pulled off a blockbuster signing of free agents Chris Bosh from the Toronto Raptors and LeBron James, and managed to re-sign their own free agent 2006 Finals MVP Dwyane Wade Amid intense media scrutiny and criticism all season, Miami reached the 2011 NBA Finals, their second Finals appearance in franchise history, and it was rematch with their 2006 Finals counterpart the Dallas Mavericks. Miami took a 2-1 lead in those Finals including a game 3 win in Dallas but would go on to lose 3 straight games after that and as a result, the series, including game 6 back in Miami . In 2012, the Heat returned to the Finals, defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games. With that win, Miami became the first team to win a title after falling behind in three different playoff series. These include 2-1 against the Indiana Pacers, 3-2 to the Boston Celtics and 1-0 against the Thunder. This was the second time Miami swept the three home games in the Finals; the first was in 2006. Dwayne Wade leads Heat all time in Points, Assists, Steals, Field Goals, and Free Throws. He admiraly has taken to the backseat to 4 time MVP winner Lebron James , so him, Bosh, and James and coexist and play well together. As a result, they have been successfull, and along the way created rivalries with the Knicks, Bulls, Celtics and Pacers. The most intense, being between the Bulls and Pacers, as a result of their physical playoff series that will, and did occur this season, and last season.


2013 Playoffs: After a successful season which included a a franchise record, 52 day, 2nd all time, 27 game winning streak that started on February 3, 2013 against the Toronto Raptors and would end on March 27, 2013 in a 101-97 loss to the Chicago Bulls (which helped heat up the rivalry) the Miami Heat created a deep run in the playoffs and advanced to the NBA Finals against the Spurs after beating the Pacers in a 7 games.
