There were many movie's that were released during the 1980's. A lot of modern day actors career's were launched during this time period. Many movies that are still popular today were made during the 1980's. The 1980's was a decade of great movies and television shows and below is a list of a few of the popular ones.

     
                               
the outsiders         The outsiders is a movie based on a book about a group of boys that are in a gang. You might be asking why this is such an important movie for the 1980's. Well, because this movie propelled many actors into stardom. Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, and Emilio Estevez are just a couple of the guys in the movie that later became part of the "Brat Pack" which led to other movies like The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles.
  indiana jones The First three Indiana Jones movies were released in the 1980's. All three were top money getters at the box office. These movies are still favorites of people who were born after the 1980's. Their popularity is evident because in 2008 there was a fourth Indiana Jones movie, which is almost 20 years after the third one was released.
                         
      E.T.   E. T. earned the most money by any movie in the 1980's. It was directed by Steven Spielberg and due to the fame of this movie it made him a household name. Many famous people loved this movie including President Ronald Regan and the First Lady, who invited Spielberg to the White House. It is also rumored that Princess Diana even cried after the movie was over. When he showed E. T. to the United Nations they awarded him with the U. N. Peace Medal.
                         
  seinfield           The television show Seinfeld was a breakout hit in the late 1980's and early 1990's. The show featured comedian Jerry Seinfeld. Many regard this show as one of the best sitcoms ever. Reruns are still played today on many networks even though the show has been off the air for many years.
                         
  Miami Vice     Miami Vice was probably the most popular television show of the 1980's. The show was based on two Miami police officers that worked undercover. The show integrated pop culture with television which brought a lot of people to the show. This show was so influential that it started a fashion trend. People Magazine stated that Miami Vice "was the first show to look really new and different since color TV was invented." There were also movie spin offs from the original show.
                         
        top gun     In Top Gun Tom Cruise plays a reckless aviator who unexpectedly gets sent to the top flight school for Navy airmen. When he arrives there he gets into some trouble and almost gets sent out. This movie received many awards including a Peoples Choice Award for Favorite Motion Picture. Many people say that this was a recruiting movie for the Navy and indeed it was. The United States Navy stated that after the release of the film that the number of young men who enlisted, wanting to be Navy aviators, went up by 500 percent.
                         
        ghostbusters            
              Ghostbusters is a comedy about three scientists who go around capturing ghosts in New York City. It was written by Dan Aykroyd & Harold Ramis, who are co-stars in the movie. Bill Murry also starred in the movie. It is ranked at 32nd for most profitable movies of all time. It was also ranked 28 for the top 100 comedy movies of all time. It was ranked as the funniest movie in the last 25 years.
