Gumby was created by a man named Art Clokey in 1955. The first 15 minute episode was called Gumby Goes to the Moon, but it was rejected by NBC. The first televised episode of Gumby was called Robot Rumbus, and it aired on The Howdy Doody show in August 1956. Gumby In 1957 Gumby was given his own series on NBC. Initially the voice of Gumby was supplied by female characters, but from 1959-1964 it was supplied by Dallas McKennon. Gumby was also the spokesman of the Library of Congress, as well as starring in his own movie called Gumby: the Movie, in 1955
