    Kobe Bryant
 

Kobe Bryant was born August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of three children. He was the only son of the Philadelphia 76ers and former head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks Joe "Jellybean" Bryant, and his mother Pamela Cox Bryant. When he was six, Kobe moved to Italy because his father was going to play professional basketball there. During his summers, sometimes Kobe would come back to the United States to play in some summer basketball leagues. Kobe says, had he stayed in Italy he probably would have tried to become a professional soccer. When his father retired from basketball in 1991 Kobe moved back to the United States.

Kobe Bryant is a shooting guard for the Los Angeles Lakers. He has been in the league since 1996 where he was drafted as the 13th pick. In Eagle, Colorado during the summer of 2003, Kobe Bryant was accused of sexual assault by a 19 year old hotel employee. He was staying in the hotel waiting to undergo his knee surgery nearby. Katelyn Faber, the hotel employee, accused Kobe for raping her in his room the night before his surgery. Kobe admitted to the adulterous sexual encounter, but denied the sexual assault part. In September of 2004 the assault case was dropped because Faber refused to tesify in the trial. Kobe apologized to Katelyn. She filed a seperate civil lawsuit, both sides agreed to keep it from the public.
